Quantum Jitters (D)

Your willful acts sometimes dent spacetime.

Whenever you use an activated ability, there's a small chance your focus slips and you dent spacetime in the local region, causing 1-2 spacetime vortices to appear. This chance increases the longer you go without using an activated ability.

Quantum Jitters (D) is a mental defect that causes the player to occasionally create @space-time vortexes when using an activated ability.

Players with Quantum Jitters who use an activated ability have a chance to create 1-2 space-time vortexes in random tiles immediately adjacent to them.[1] These space-time vortexes will choose a random destination somewhere in the world, including locations above and below ground, as their destination, and anything that steps into the vortexes will be immediately transported to that location. The vortexes will also randomly move on their own after being created, sucking in anything they cross into the same tile as. They will dissipate after 20 rounds, or immediately upon coming into contact with a source of normality.

The chance for Quantum Jitters to trigger depends on how long it has been since the player last used an activated ability. For every round the player goes without using such an ability, they accumulate an additional 0.1% chance to trigger Quantum Jitters the next time they use one, up to a maximum of 25% at 250 rounds. Using an activated ability, whether or not it triggers Quantum Jitters, resets this chance to 0%.[1]

When Quantim Jitters triggers, the message log will display the following:

Your focus slips, causing you to dent spacetime in the local region.

Advantages & Disadvantages[]

This section is opinion-based. Your mileage may vary.

Advantages[]

  • Grants 3 extra points to spend on character creation
  • Normality fields or items affected by them, such as a player wearing an Ontological anchor.pngontological anchor, will destroy vortexes, preventing them from teleporting the player and other objects
  • Can be useful to teleport dangerous enemies away from the player

Disadvantages[]

  • Being affected by normality will not directly prevent Quantum Jitters from triggering
  • Vortexes can potentially transport the player into an even more dangerous situation
  • Can cause the player to become lost underground if they don't have a Recoiler.pngrecoiler
  • Vortexes can teleport friendly creatures away, potentially causing them to be lost forever
