Lairs are small (1-3 levels deep) dungeons that can be encountered almost anywhere on the surface. The bottom level of the lair will contain its owner, a Legendary Monster. The rest of the lair is populated by similar creatures (usually from the same faction), as well as a few generic cave critters.

Lairs are notable as the only way to encounter legendary members of some factions: for instance, legendary frogs (which can grant you the "Leap, Frog." achievement) can only be found in a lair. Unfortunately, not every game will contain a given type of lair.
