Hitpoints, or HP, are a measure of how close a creature is to death (or, for inorganic creatures, items, and terrain features, how close it is to destruction).

Losing and Gaining Hitpoints Edit

Attacks and certain environmental effects or status conditions, if they get past DV, AV, and/or MA, will reduce the Hitpoints of the creature, item, or terrain feature they hit. If their Hitpoints are reduced to 0, they will die. Certain items and effects, such as Salve Tonics, can restore lost Hitpoints.

Additionally, many creatures will naturally regenerate Hitpoints according to the following formula:

Maximum Hitpoints Edit

At character gen, the player character has a number of Hitpoints equal to their Toughness score.

Each level after that, they gain 1d4+(Toughness Modifier) maximum Hitpoints. The bonus given by Toughness modifier is retroactive, so if a character moves from a modifier of +2 to +3 at level 12, they will gain 11 retroactive hitpoints, 1 for every level where their modifier was lower.

Inexact Hitpoints Edit

Enemy Hitpoints (and player Hitpoints for those with Analgesia) are, by default, displayed as a general description of their condition rather than a specific hit point value as according to the following table:

Description Hitpoint Percentage
Perfect 100% - __%
Fine __% - __%
Wounded __% - __%
Badly Wounded __% - 0%

While wearing a powered Bio-Scanning Bracelet or VISAGE, the player can see exact Hitpoint totals.
