Cooking is one of the gameplay systems in Caves of Qud. Unlike thirst, it is not intended as a survival mechanic, though eating to stave off hunger prevents debuffs to movement.
Cooking can only be done at a lit campfire or a clay oven. If the player has invested in the Cooking and Gathering skill tree, they can have access to increasingly powerful benefits by utilizing the cooking effects system. This system can also randomly trigger and add an effect without having the skill.
A player may cook at a campfire or oven up to three times. After that, they must wait until they become hungry or famished before the 3-time counter is reset and they can cook again.
